I interviewed at Samsara (San Francisco, CA) in Aug 2017
Interview
Recruiting screen, manager screen, onsite (meet with 3 people). The office is just like previous reviews say- literally flies outside, not in the nicest part of town. Inside is not bad. Went in early in the AM and the sales floor was roaring. Your typical sales floor with sales people walking around with headsets. Through the process, got the impression they have a very strong sales culture. Apparently looking to grow sales by 3x in the next year and the largest department is sales. Just like people say, a lot of them were previously at Meraki. Would be a good fit for anybody willing to griiiiiiiiind it out, and join the boys club culture (fast-talking, idiom-abusing, salespeople) only saw 1-2 females on the sales team on my visit.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Why Samsara? Why should I hire you? Practice role play if you were to cold call.
Huge misalignment on expectation and lots of misleading information.
If you are offered (or Samsara pressures) to start middle of month or quarter, run. This is a trap to set you up for failure and cut on ramp commissions.
I first spoke with a recruiter for the screening process, which took about 25 minutes. She was late, but was very nice and provided tips on what they're looking for. She sent a lot of follow up information to prep for the next interview round. I then met with the hiring manager who did a deeper dive into numbers and expectations.
5 rounds in total, 1 with HR, 1 with a Sales Manager, then 3 in 1 day: Manager, Director and another Director. Very low acceptance rate. Must demonstrate growth mindset, specific deal metrics, and a natural drive.
