      Account Executive Interview

      Jun 6, 2024
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Austin, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Samsara (Austin, TX) in May 2024

      Interview

Just one or two reviews down from this is one that mirrored my own experience so closely that I had to do a double-take. It was as if I had written it myself. Same role and same location, so they may have worked with the same recruiter. After enduring two weeks of silence after my second interview, I finally received the official rejection today. There are supposed to be three interviews: one phone screen with a recruiter, one with a manager, and a long one with two or three managers and directors. I can't remember the specifics at this point, though. I made it to the second interview. The first red flag was the manager showing up late to the interview; the next was a second person showing up late who was not mentioned and never explained. Throughout the interview, the manager half-listened and didn't understand much about my prior experience. I knew leaving the meeting they had a large misunderstanding about my talent, but I figured I would still get the opportunity to move on to the next stage since I am top talent everywhere I've even bothered to look in the direction of. Following the second interview, a week of silence from the recruiter was a clear signal of a problem. I took the initiative to follow up, but to no avail. This lack of communication is a significant concern and a red flag in the hiring process. In my experience, there are few explanations for this type of recruiting process. Either 1) they stack backup candidates because many offers get declined, or they have high churn or both. and/or 2) there is a hiring freeze or other significant reorganization going on. Take this all with a grain of salt. I am clearly disappointed. I just hope this helps future candidates understand their value and what red flags they might encounter so they do not waste time or energy in the same ways I did.

      Interview

Huge misalignment on expectation and lots of misleading information. If you are offered (or Samsara pressures) to start middle of month or quarter, run. This is a trap to set you up for failure and cut on ramp commissions.

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Samsara (London, England) in Jul 2026

      Interview

First 30 min chat with a recruiter then a 45 for a call with the hiring manager. The first call was more information sharing and was less formal and the second interview was questions around prior experience and what I would be looking for in a company.

I interviewed at Samsara (San Francisco, CA)

      Interview

I first spoke with a recruiter for the screening process, which took about 25 minutes. She was late, but was very nice and provided tips on what they're looking for. She sent a lot of follow up information to prep for the next interview round. I then met with the hiring manager who did a deeper dive into numbers and expectations.
