Hiring process disjointed. phone screen conducted by HR passed across to hiring manager. if they like youre invited to assesment which consisted of an exercise which is sent by email while youre on MS teams with the hr partner who then sends everyones the document and you have 1 hour to answer some questions relating to fincrime.
Made it to next stage a week later found out on friday afternoon HR wanted to book me in for a interview with hiring team next week - given choice of 3 slots. within 30 mins reply and told "sorry the team have arranged a meeting for then" (ok so why offer the slot). i then chose the closest slot which happens to be Monday 9am. Of course the Hr team didnt tell the guys interviewing me until sun night so had to chase for dial in details for remote interview over the weekend and had an invite at 8am on the morning - was also told they didnt know they were conducting interview until the night before.
Interview invite just says "competency - 45mins" what you get when you're on it is about 10 fairly heavy competency questions back to back (lasting over an hour).
Lead interviewer very wooden. Lady taking notes was very friendly. I feel the interview went well despite the stoical nature of the interviewer. Dissapointingly when I asked about remote working after pandemic (my questions after theyd finished grilling me) the interviewer was clearly trying to sit on the fence and wouldnt commit "we dont know due to the ever changing times of covid but i dont feel as a bank we will ever go back to old ways of working having said that its likely there will be an element of travel expected and we cant predict what will happen". Basically - santander ops leads cant decide what they want and havent made a decision so the only question a candidate may reasonably ask, they cant answer. Of course called up 2 days later call duration 1 min 20 seconds from HR "not enough detail in risk response. (in what i know was my strongest answer) AVOID!
