      I interviewed at Sectra

      Interview

Went through numerous rounds of phone interviews. After 3rd or 4th phone round interview, I was unexpectedly asked to fly in for another in person interview (hopefully semi final as they will tell you the owner makes a "gut call for a final interview") within a very short time frame. I trusted this to be a positive sign and decided to give it a shot. What happened next is where things started to go down hill, fast. After booking my flight and less than 48 hrs until flying out, I was emailed and asked to create a project presentation around their product to present to a panel at Shelton. The instructions were severely vague and confusing, Clarifying questions around what they were looking for were not answered. I decided to work hard on creating a last minute presentation as best and follow through. Keep in miind, I am staying up late in the AM having to prepare this last min presentation while also preparing to make a 3hr flight and a 1hr drive from the airport to Shelton to deliver a few hours later. but I was hungry for the role. When I was on site at Shelton, I was taken to the conference room for in person interviews and finally asked to present the presentation. I brought a copy of my presentation on digital media, even though it wasn't instructed to do so (again the last minute request for a presentation was hilariously vague), which turned out to be what was needed for their conference room as I found out 10 mins before having to give the presentation. When I was ready to load the presentation, the Sectra employee (whom was very nice) had no idea how to load it and 5 mins before giving it, I had to figure out how to use their equipment to load it, which I did and gave the presentation and then I informed and taught the sectra employee (I think they were an intern?) on how I figured out how to use their equipment since they were having issues trying to figure out how to do so. I legitimately thought this was some kind of pressure "test" to see how I would react in a demanding situation with almost zero instructions or guidance and considering I had a full blown presentation and was able to deliver it without any guidance or help, I felt confident that I showed promising potential to them. As soon as I returned home I was emailed that they decided to move forward with other candidates, I asked for feedback and was not provided any. At the time, there wasn't much feedback on their interviews so I wasn't aware this to be the common theme and risk with them. I wasted a lot of time, effort and personal safety through their rigorous and poorly thought out interview process. Nice people working there, but completely unprofessional interview process. Beware.

HR screening, then lengthy cognitive and personality tests followed by 3 interviews with hiring manager and directors. Communication between the interviews was relatively quick and then radio silence after the final interview.

The recruiters are very helpful. It seems like a top down interview process in general. It didn’t seem to matter how you did at each step until the end. It was about one month.

      Interview

The first call is from a recruiter, the second from a hiring manager, the third is a panel interview, and the final is with an executive. They were pretty quick about getting in touch with me. The screening with the recruiter and the initial interview were very positive experiences, people were quite nice and gave a very good idea of the job. However, the panel interview - good luck. Don't be more poised in the interview than the panel will like because they will claim that it's AI and will ask you extremely condescending questions about your knowledge and your ability. If you are smarter than them in any way or well prepared for your interview, they will treat it as a threat. All in all, if this is the culture at the company - full of people that are looking to undermine you or exclude you immediately, this is probably not the company for you.
