I applied to Shopify a few months ago for another role and didn't make the cut, unfortunately. I thought I'd try again as Shopify has been on the top of my list for companies I'd like to work for -- it seems that they really value you as a person, want you to grow, etc. This time around my experience was horrible. I applied for the recruiter position and heard back about a week after the job posting expired. I was really excited as the talent specialist seemed excited about my application. I was asked to setup a time with the recruiter through Calendly. I booked in a call for the next morning. As soon as the recruiter called me, I knew the call was not going to go anywhere. Firstly, she seemed confused and asked me if I knew she was calling..... I said yes, I booked it in, so of course! The entire conversation she seemed really bored and disinterested. She was super hung up on the reason I left my last job, and that completely derailed the conversation. She actually said to me "you left without finding another job?". I felt judged and deeply disrespected. I explained my reasons, and tried to stay positive and show my interest for this role. I asked a ton of questions at the end and she sped through all of the answers. About a week later, I received an email that I was not moving forward and that absolutely no feedback could be given. I find it odd that a company that says they value candidates have a recruiter like this who is rude to people.... it contradicts what Shopify says they stand for, and judging from all of the other negative interview reviews here, there are quite a few bad apples. I think they maybe need to hire recruiters who are actually in HR and understand labour relations regulations in Ontario.
