I applied online. I interviewed at Shopify (Waterloo, ON) in Feb 2019
Interview
Before applying you need to do their coding challenge, and write a cover letter. They also say to create a shop but I didn't do that.
The first interview was the life story portion, as mentioned many times before. They ask you about your past experiences and the most important part about this was to explain WHY you did the actions that you did. Overall very enjoyable interview.
About a week later, an onsite interview was scheduled. Now, this was the interview that I did not enjoy. You bring in a personal project and talk about the technical aspects of it, challenges you faced etc for the first 30 mins. The second part was talking about the challenge you created, and how you can build further upon it.
My problem with the second interview was how the interviewers were being very condescending, and overall I did not feel a good vibe during the interview. The entire time it seemed like they would rather be doing something else which I felt was very disrespectful.
When you apply, you apply with your resume (and optional referall). After a couple days if your resume passes, then you get the link to the OA. After the OA (if you pass), then you get invited to technical interview. If you pass technical interview, then you get invited to life story interview.
I completed the Online Assessment (OA) which consisted of three LeetCode-style questions. I was able to use my preferred languages, Ruby and C++. I successfully solved two out of the three problems, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough to move on to the next round.
