I applied online (through an ad I saw on Craigslist) to be the Activities Assistant for the Silverado Memory Care Community near me. I got a call back about a week later asking me to come in anytime to fill out more application materials, sign essential paperwork, and fill out a test online. I did so soon after the call. The questions asked on the computer were very simple and repetitive, basically trying to figure out if I have ever stolen from work, done drugs, or physically abused a client or coworker. After I finished and left the building, the receptionist called me and told me she had emailed me another questionnaire to fill out. This one just had your typical "What would you do if..." questions that are often seen on applications and asked in job interviews. I finished that up, and a few days later, on a Monday, the Director of Resident Engagement (who had called me originally and is the supervisor to the Activities Assistants) gave me a call and offered to interview me on the following Wednesday at 1 PM. When I arrived, the receptionist told me that my interviewer was currently finishing something up and would be with me soon. I sat in the living room (which was really enjoyable, actually, because I was able to hang out with the residents) for an hour (!!!) before she came to get me. It was a bit frustrating that it took so long, but I figured she must have been very busy so I didn't really care. My interview went fine; I wasn't too confident when I left, but I knew I didn't completely blow it. Another week went by and I received another call from the Director of Resident Engagement, asking me to come in at any time to fill out the papers for my background check and to get my physical and orientation set up. I thought this meant I had the job, so I thanked her and showed up the next day. I waited another half hour for her, and then she greeted me, took me to the room I was interviewed in, and said that the woman with the papers I needed to sign wasn't there at the moment and that I would be called when she arrived (which was implied to be later that day). Again, I thought I had the job, so I thanked her again and left. A week later, I still hadn't received a phone call. I called her twice after that and left a message asking when I could fill out the papers, and I have not heard back. I just personally think this is very unprofessional. I don't mind getting rejected after an interview, but I really felt like they just changed their minds and ignored me until I got the point. I don't doubt that this is a great company to work for and I loved talking with the residents. Just be wary of the supervisors, I guess.
