I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at SimpliSafe (Boston, MA) in Feb 2017
Interview
Phone Screen, Phone Interview, Take-Home test, In-Person Interview.
Phone Screen was to match my skills to their needs, Phone interview was some basic discussion & some concept questions. In-Person interview was all discussion, from Soft-Skill questions to low-level language questions, with 4 pairs of employees from different departments. Wrapped up with Department lead for position I was interviewing for. No coding tests on the white-board or computer.
Take home was to write a basic game app. Seems like the norm is about a week to complete it before the in-person. Was a little frustrated here because they moved the in-person up a whole week, so I had ~24 hr to complete this take-home on top of my everyday work.
I was able to put out a working copy before the interview, and I even took more personal time to polish it up over the weekend. No offer but the recruiter I was working with proceeded to drop off the face of the earth so maybe that had something to do with it?

Interview
Recruiter screen -> Hiring Manager 30 minute call -> power day to meet the team. Everyone was pleasant. The questions were typical. There was a short live coding part in codesandbox where they allowed ample time to solve a very easy "filter this list and sort it" problem that barely required 2 code changes to pass.
Short intro phone call with recruiter, followed by a 2 question technical assessment (very easy difficulty; anyone who is a programmer could figure them out). After passing, follow up call with engineering manager.

Question 1
Compare and contrast two programming languages that you know.
First step was a phone call, second was a fairly basic take home test, final step was a technical manager interview. After the manager interview they said they would get back to me within a few days. After about a week and a half they told me they had chosen someone else.
