Applied on December 1st and attended the Open-Interview on December 7th in Atlanta, GA. There seemed to be about 150 people there but my estimate could be off. They had us line up into two separate lines to hand in our resumes and sign in, after signing in they did a height check and tell you to be seated. I used this time to socialize with the other candidates until it was time to start. I truly believe we were being observed from the moment we walked in so be mindful of that. They started the session by introducing us to the company, requirements, and benefits then gave us the floor to ask questions. Don't interrupt while they are talking, just listen. Ask at least ONE question, but be sure it isn't a question they've already gone over or anything relating to pay/benefits. Stand up when asking your question, shows confidence. After the questions were asked we had 5 minutes for a break and then had to come back and answer the question "What would make you a good flight attendant?". When answering this question they make it clear to not talk about your age, family, or pets and to only speak on your work experience and qualities in 60 seconds or less. The people who failed to follow those instructions were not selected to move forward to the face to face. DON'T talk about WHY YOU want to be a flight attendant and what it can OFFER YOU. DO talk about what YOU can offer them and how YOUR EXPERIENCE has prepared you to be in this role. Also, in your pitch don't say anything about SkyWest. There were a few candidates who went up there talking about why they would make a good flight attendant for SOUTHWEST and once they caught themselves unfortunately it was too late. Don't even set yourself up for that, just leave the companies name out of your pitch and stick to the question at hand, they aren't asking you what would make you a good flight attendant for SkyWest, they're simply asking what would make you a good flight attendant. So don't be that person trying to show off in that way, there are other ways to make yourself stand out. My advice to those of you wanting this career is to write a response to that question and record yourself saying it to make sure it's between 45-60 seconds then play that recording to yourself repeatedly until you can confidently say it out loud. That's what I did and while I was nervous I did sound confident while standing up there and speaking in front of everyone. Make sure it's over 30 seconds. The people who spent less than 30 seconds up there did not move forward to the face to face. Read the job description! It tells you what kind of candidate they are looking for and what qualities they should have so use that to your advantage and throw it into your pitch. Make sure to focus on customer service and safety, and try to make yourself stand out but be genuine. SMILE! If you have volunteer experience that relates to the job be sure to talk about that along with your work experience, it really does show your care for others and your passion for customer service. I was the only one who mentioned my volunteer experience during my elevator pitch and I was selected to move forward to the face to face. I do believe my volunteer experience and using a part of the job description in my pitch to describe myself is what helped me stand out. Only about 20-25 people were selected to move forward to the face to face. It was a very diverse group of people from different backgrounds which I liked seeing. They will ask you about your work experience, situational, and behavioral questions. They will let you know within 2 weeks if you're selected for training and will ask if you have any questions for them before ending the interview, make sure to ask a question. I asked "How did you get started in the industry?" and her face lit up while telling me her story. I thanked her for her time and also thanked her for a positive experience. It took them exactly 15 days to get back in touch with me. I just received my CJO and start training on February 14th, 2018! This was the best Christmas gift and I'm so excited to embark on this journey, on Valentine's Day at that! I wish everyone the best of luck. Remember to take a deep breath, smile and be yourself <3
