      DevOps Consultant Interview

      Oct 2, 2019
      Anonymous employee
      Portland, OR
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Slalom (Portland, OR) in Sep 2019

      Interview

First contact was a phone screen with the practice lead about my background and some general software questions about things on my resume. Next stage was an onsite interview with two members in the practice. The first interview was software problem solving questions (not traditional whiteboard algorithm questions). The second interview was more about devops concepts, cicd, pipelining, branching strategy etc. The final interview was a hands on problem of explaining the process of deploying a simple app to production on a local machine, followed by a short wrap up with the practice lead.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What would your dream scenario pipeline for code release look like.

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Slalom

      Interview

I met with individual contributors and leaders of multiple practices related to my area of expertise to discuss past project experience, learning and professional philosophy, and ask my own questions to learn more about the position. These conversations lasted multiple rounds and were both technical and soft-skills oriented.

      Question 1

There aren't many specific questions because these interviews were very natural and conversational, but you should be prepared to talk in depth about past projects and experiences including decision factors, business impact, etc.
