Terrible candidate experience. Never again, Smithbucklin. What started out positive completely flipped on its head. I applied for a top senior role that would have represented two of the organization's clients. Between various interviews and testing, I had passed their fifth round, and was waiting to advance to the sixth round level. That's when I saw they had reposted the position and were continuing to shop for more talent. I inquired about the situation and they gave me a nonchalant reply. Worse, they kept me on the hook for more than two months following this, indicating I was still in consideration for the seat. They ended up hiring a young male for the role, someone with very little chops for the job. In fact, he had significantly less education and experience than me, and shockingly, he had absolutely no industry background. It was laughable. Why did he get the job? Well, maybe because his look and his vibe were just like the last guy. The whole Smithbucklin experience was disrespectful and disappointing. It was also incredibly drawn out over many, many months, and highly misleading. The head of HR tries to get very chummy, but it's all a veneer. Be warned: this group is opaque and phony. It is hard to get a straight answer, and it's not clear if that's because they don't know the answer, or if they are fibbing. Do better, Smithbucklin. I jumped through hoops for you and it was as if you slapped me in the face in return. I'm guessing some of this behavior also rolls down to your nonprofit clients. I feel sorry for them. This is one person who will never vie to be your candidate again.
