      Operations Manager Interview

      Oct 9, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Sonder in Sep 2018

      Interview

I was rushed to execute a first round virtual (video) interview. I had zero doubt that the interview went well and was told that next steps would include a quant. exam and an in-person interview with the team, ideally followed by a meeting with the CEO. I never heard back. What's worse is that I have a personal connection within the company. Treating candidates like this is not a good practice. You should probably have a dedicated HR professional to prescreen candidates, as opposed to rude and irresponsive General Managers.

      Operations Manager Interview

      Aug 16, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Sonder

      Interview

There was an initial interview with a recruiter/HR, then one with someone in the same roll, then what they call "The Challenge" (AKA a lengthy questionnaire filled with situational questions/scheduling/hiring/etc) followed by the Sr Ops Manager, then the GM of the area (some were zoom, some in person). The interview process was extremely lengthy - both in the time spent interviewing, the ask of completing a lengthy assignment (this took about 8 hours) and also the time between interviews and receiving follow up. After the 4th interview there was no communication for almost 5 weeks. When putting someone through this lengthy, detailed and time consuming of a process there should be much more consideration for the candidate.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The following questions are only HALF of the challenge...in person/zoom interview questions were standard of the hotel industry and your experience. A lot of conversation on Sonders "future" and goals and growth. Each conversation felt as if Sonder was trying to convince me of how fantastic they were, when in reality, the structure and company does not quite have things figured out yet. What are your top 3 personal core values? What are your top 3 professional core values? What are your three favorite books? Name a company that you admire most and why? 1) Tell us about a time that you received exceptional hospitality - what made it exceptional? 2) Someone is not giving you a clear “yes” or “no” response to one of your requests. What do you do? 3) What do you do when a colleague challenges one of your ideas? 4) Your team discusses a complex project. Everyone has a specific role and you don’t agree with your assigned task. Knowing that your strengths can be applied elsewhere, how do you approach the situation? How would you go about communicating your point of view? 5) Not all parts of the job are fun and challenging. What task falls into this category for you and how do you motivate yourself to complete it? 6) Please describe a stretch goal you set for yourself. What was it and what was the outcome? 7) Please describe a time where you failed to meet expectations. What steps did you take in order to meet what was expected of you? What were the results? 8) You and your manager have very different approaches to feedback. You function best when met with weekly to discuss wins and challenges, while your manager has a hands-off approach. How do you seek regular feedback? Or do you assume that no news is good news? 9) After going through a previous revision session, as well as a training session, one of your employees has now made the same mistake twice. What would you do? 10) Name a time where you had to adapt at work. What steps did you take in order to adapt to the changes? What was the result? 11) You run into a guest on property and ask them about their trip so far. The guest’s main grievance is that they have called the guest experience line 4 times, and have yet to reach a manager, despite asking to speak with one repeatedly. What is your immediate response to the guest, and what are some action items you can follow up with?

      Operations Manager Interview

      Oct 26, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Miami, FL
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Sonder (Miami, FL) in Dec 2021

      Interview

Went through like 5 different interviews for an Orlando position. On one of the interviews, I was made to drive down to Miami on my dime. also had to fill out some questionnaire that took 2 days to complete. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS COMPANY. I was expecting the pay to match the amount of leg work the interviews required which was silly on my part.

      Operations Manager Interview

      Sep 7, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Sonder

      Interview

The interview process involved many interviews with different people at different levels within the company, none of whom seemed to communicate with each other. The same questions were asked over and over and the skill exam was ridiculous for the salary they were offering.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The majority of their questions were about general knowledge of their company - all they wanted to know was why you loved them so much that you wanted to work there. That and ensuring you had an ivy league background were the two factors they cared most about.
