Question 1
Typical questions about Statics and Mechanics of Materials: Fixed wall with an aluminium beam in between. The beam is heated, what happens inside the beam at and the walls? How would you optimize a beam, which is fixed to the wall at one end, for a vertical load at the very end? What is happening at the wall due to the vertical load? How would you optimize a beam for a torsional load?
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at SpaceX (Hawthorne, CA) in Feb 2013
Interview
I had received a phone interview. It was very technical with principals based in Mechanical Engineering. These ranged from optimizing the cross section of a beam, to discussing buckling load, to some brain teasers. My resume was briefly looked over but I did not get a chance to talk much about it.

Question 1
The most difficult question the question on buckling which I had not learned yet. For that reason the interviewer asked me to piece together the equation for buckling load from intuition.
