      Web Designer Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Spokeo

      Interview

Applying: I applied online via a job board for a web designer position. I met 90% of the job requirements (all except shots on dribbble) so I figured I would give it a shot! I was contacted shortly after by a recruiter at Spokeo. I had a short phone conversation in which I learned a lot about the company and the position. I was invited to come in to the office to have an interview. During the Interview: Prior to my interview I was sent a very informative email explaining exactly what I should expect on the day of my interview, down the very color of the awning above the parking entrance. When I got to the office suite, I was greeted by the office manager and taken to the interview room by a recruiter. I spoke with him for a short time before the design manager and senior designer I was interviewing with came in. The interview with them lasted about an hour or so. During which, I showed my portfolio and talked about my projects. They seemed very interested and asked a lot of questions that other professionals never had. This was very intriguing to me because I saw a glimpse into the critiquing process with them. After the design interview I met with one of the founders who genuinely seemed interested in me as a person and my wanted to know why I was interested in working with Spokeo. I asked him a few questions about the company and some of the negative PR buzz that I saw while researching the company prior to my interview. He was very willing to answer my questions which was another great sign for me personally. After the Interview: I was given a tour of the office and told I would hear soon from the recruiter via email. It was right around the holiday season so I wasn't expecting to hear back from them for a few weeks. However, they kept their word and I heard back from them during the holidays while the recruiter was on vacation! Overall I had a great experience with the interview process.

      Question 1

I was asked a few technical questions but most of the interview was about my work. The questions were about the projects themselves and my process.

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Spokeo (Pasadena, CA) in Jan 2014

      Interview

I first met with a friendly and personable recruiter. Was asked general questions about my work history, current job, reasons why I was looking and what my salary requirements were. Following the short introduction with the recruiter I met with one of the founders along with 2 other senior designers to present my design portfolio. The review was pretty laid back and went well. The rest of the interview the founder spoke about the company and answered any questions I had. The whole interview lasted about an hour and half.

      Question 1

I was asked a few questions during the design presentation mostly about process and reasoning behind design decisions. I wouldn't say any particular question was difficult. Just be prepared to back up our work.
