I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Square

      Interview

I recently interviewed for an Account Manager position at Square, and while I didn’t get the outcome I wanted, that’s not the issue. My main concern is how the interview was conducted. The process started with a recruiter phone interview, covering standard questions like “Why Square?”, “Where are you based?”, and salary expectations. This part was straightforward. The second stage was a mock sales call with the hiring manager, where I was expected to act as an Account Manager, uncover the customer’s needs, and tailor solutions accordingly. This is where things took a disappointing turn. The hiring manager seemed disengaged and uninterested throughout the conversation, as if they didn’t want to be there. There was no real attempt to make it a productive discussion, which made the entire exercise feel like a waste of time. While I accept the outcome, what I find frustrating is the lack of professionalism and meaningful feedback. Had I known the interview would be handled this way, I wouldn’t have bothered attending. Looking back, I see it as a blessing in disguise. I wouldn’t want to work somewhere that doesn’t respect candidates’ time. For those considering applying, I’d advise paying attention to red flags early on. Hopefully, Square improves its hiring process to reflect the company it claims to be.
