      HRBP Interview

      May 8, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Arlington, VA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Stand Together (Arlington, VA)

      Interview

I had a 30-minute phone call with a Manager at Stand Together. The call (interview) was going smoothly (outside of the noisy background on the Managers side) until we got on the topic of diversity and inclusion in the organization. I had my concerns/questions around D&I with this organization, but they were all confirmed in this call. Simply put, Stand Together does not believe in diversity, inclusion, or belonging and this was made clear via the Manager. I found this not only disappointing, but very sickening. The Manager went on to say that the organization does not have any D&I initiatives in place, nor are they required to have them. The Manager said it with so much pride, which was very confusing. Any HR Professional (specifically, in the talent sector), should want a D&I initiative in place and encourage D&I internally. Needless to say, after the call, I withdrew my candidacy for the TABP role. At that point, my candidacy no longer mattered. I would never work for an organization with no desire to evolve or grow. I would also never want to be associated with an organization whose mission contradicts its internal operations. In addition, it was revealed that Stand Together offers no internal professional development opportunities to its employees and the employee benefits are subpar. Lastly, the Manager could not clearly articulate why the role was still open after 30+ days. It seemed there was an underlying reason that she did not want to reveal. My assumption is that due to her unprofessional and crass demeanor, candidates are removing themselves from consideration.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. There seems to be a misunderstanding around our employee programs and benefits, so we would encourage you to reach out to us at careers@standtogether.org so we can clarify the miscommunication. To address your comments, I wanted to share a few thoughts on our unique culture and approach to empowering people. As an employer, we value the unique skills and attributes of every employee. As a community, we value the unique skills and attributes of every individual. It may sound corny, but it is the essence of our mission as a philanthropic community; it's who we are. In each of our organizations, we focus on removing obstacles that inhibit individuals from being appreciated for their unique perspectives, skills, backgrounds, and offerings. We oppose a one size fits all approach in every aspect of society – education, government, communities, and business. Our success as a community has come from championing societal issues at the individual level. We give people respect and support to find their voice because they know best what they need. What fuels our ability to have an impact externally is the diversity of perspectives from within our community. When you're in the business of bottom-up societal change, you need to make room for everyone. We are building a movement around diverse voices, perspectives, and ideas designed to include every American. Our approach to people is unique in today's market, and we stand by our investment in our staff. We encourage intellectual curiosity, as well as principled entrepreneurship, and provide a culture of shared learning, integrity, and humility. We empower our team by setting expectations according to principles rather than specific orders or rules, which demonstrates our respect for them as individuals and professionals. We encourage transparency, constructive critiques, and creative destruction to empower our team and free them to evolve the role they play. Their growth fuels our impact as an organization in a mutually beneficial way. We strive to make room for all aspects of our team and what they have to offer. We have found this approach not only helps our employees understand the importance of their work and their role in our success; it frees them to think past the norm and innovate. Thank you for taking the time out to speak with us. I'm sorry to hear that your experience was negative. There was clearly a profound misunderstanding in your conversation, and we'd be happy to speak in further detail on this if you'd like to get in contact. We wish you the best of luck in your search for your next role.
