      Barista Interview

      Jun 7, 2012
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Green Bay, WI
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Starbucks (Green Bay, WI) in Apr 2012

      Interview

I filled out an application online after seeing that they were hiring. I was called about two weeks later to come in for an interview. I arrived early and was offered a drink on the house. I ordered a Tall Tuxedo. The manager came out and greeted me and did the interview right at a table up front. They asked behavioral interview style questions, you know, the "Tell me about a time when.." type of questions. We talked about dress code and the manager mentioned tattoos should not be visible. I have a tattoo on my wrist and my shoulder and she said the one on my wrist would be "ok" but I need to cover the larger one on my shoulder. I found this interesting as one of the male Baristas had an arm sleeve of tattoos showing as he was wearing a short sleeve polo. I didn't say anything to the manager though and just agreed. I thought the interview went pretty well, but I was not offered a position. I thought it was really hypocritical for them to say any larger noticeable tattoos have to be covered regardless of season but the male Barista has a sleeve tattoo and it was shown. And then after all that and agreeing to cover mine, I got no offer. That is why I rate this a negative experience.

The interview felt rushed and disorganized. The interviewer seemed distracted, asked repetitive questions, and didn’t clearly explain the role or next steps. Overall, it left a poor impression and made the hiring process feel unprofessional.
