I applied through college or university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at State Farm (San Francisco, CA) in Feb 2012
Interview
Brief phone interview followed by in person interview. Agent asked mostly situational questions but it was clear that he mostly wanted to determine if I was willing to learn, determined to maintain a high level of motivation, and able to work independently to solve problems. It later became clear that the agent valued self-starter characteristics, because the learning curve is so steep. It is important to demonstrate that you are someone who can take direction but also a person who will use the resources available to find solutions, rather than always asking the agent for help or how to do something. It is acceptable to make mistakes in most situations, but it is learning from them that is most important. Of course, caring for others is also crucial but that should be a given.
