My experience is lengthy so bare with me... I initially applied for a Secretary position. I got an email a few days later saying I needed to do some testing (typing & personality). After I submitted that information, I was contacted about a week later telling me I had been selected for an initial phone screen. On the day of my phone interview, my recruiter called on time and he was very friendly. He asked me general questions about my degree, past employment, why I wasn't currently employed, etc. He then asked me to rate my skills in Microsoft Suite. When he asked about my Excel skills, I told him I was about a 7 on a scale from 1-10. He then told me that I unfortunately wasn't a strong enough candidate for the position, but he had another position that had just been listed and he thought I would be a great fit for (Sales Tech). He told me to go ahead and apply to that one and someone would be in touch soon. Fast-forward 2 weeks, and I receive a call to come into the office for a face-to-face meeting with a supervisor for the Sales Technician position. I immediately set up an interview to come in that following Monday. So, I arrive to the interview 20 mins early and check in with security at the front desk. He signs me into the computer, gives me a visitor's badge, and tells me to have a seat and the person I'm suppose to be meeting with would be with me shortly. About 25 mins later, my interviewer finally comes into the lobby and escorts me into a conference room with 3 other people sitting around a table. Now, this caught me completely off guard because my recruiter only told me that I would be interviewing with 1 supervisor. I, instead, had 4 people asking me questions and writing down everything I said. Granted, they were all very nice and immediately told me not to be nervous because they were going to do their best to make me as comfortable as possible. They first started off talking about StateFarm as whole, then proceeded to talk about the position, hours of operation, etc. Next, they each asked me about 3 behavioral questions each, which lasted about an hour. After the interview, they thanked me for coming in and said I should hear something back within 2-5 days. I left the office feeling confident because I was able to laugh with them, express how interested I was in the position, and what I could potentially bring to the table if selected. Here is where things get tricky.. A week passes by and I hear nothing. Two weeks goes by, nothing. Finally after two and half weeks of waiting to hear from someone, I email my recruiter, and politely ask if there were any updates in regards to the position. I wait a full week and never get a response back. In my fourth week of waiting to hear back, I send a second email to the recruiter asking for any updates. He finally writes me back the following day saying that the position had been put on hold and that he should know a final decision in a week.. Well, that week has just gone by and I have not heard anything back. As a matter of fact, the posting isn't even in my "Jobs Applied to" folder anymore. It's as if they deleted it from my profile and I never even applied to it. I expected this process to be time consuming since StateFarm is a large company, but completely leaving your candidates out of the loop is just unprofessional. Now, I'm a month and a half into this process, and I still feel like I've wasted my time.
