      I interviewed at State Farm

      Interview

Overall a massive waste of my time. Here’s the entire background. First Round: Hirevue - simple behavioral questions with a leetcode problem involved as well. Second Round: Panel interview with a manager and a technical person. This is where my experience became a waste of time EVEN THOUGH all questions were answered accurately (wrote them down and googled them after to confirm). The manager will asked behavioral questions (describe a time you made a decision where you outweighed options, describe a time you had to learn something rapidly, etc) (I’m strong at behavioral so no surprise questions here) Then came the technical portion. They asked me a warm up “what’s your favorite programming language and why”. The person then pulled up an AWS configuration file and asked me to walk through what the file does. I told them I don’t have much experience with AWS BUT imma make a best educated attempt (googled the question afree and discovered what I answered was accurate). Manager then interjected before I discussed the file, if I had any AWS experience from work, etc. I answered “no” seeing as this is a JUNIOR position. I didn’t apply for mid level. After the AWS question, the technical person then pulled up a Python file and was asked to described what the file does and things I would do differently if any. Answered this one with accuracy as well since methods were straight forward with nothing too complex. Person then asked a follow up question about why the methods exist. Then the interview ended with “why do you think companies are moving things to the cloud”. I answered along the lines of reduction of cost and focusing on core competencies, since my current company is actually in the process of migrating to cloud so I knew the reasons for it. IN THE END, I got rejected because I didn’t have AWS experience for a JUNIOR role even though I answered the technical questions accurately (confirmed it after the interview). They gave a feedback to apply for a Python/angular position which makes no sense since I don’t have experience in Python. It’s like no one looked at my resume. What’s funny is this interview basically confirmed that if you lie during the interview, you can get the offer. If I hadn’t been honest about not having experience, I would’ve had an offer.
