2ed round interview: Hour and 15 minutes. 1 analyst and 2 managers.
State Farm actually messed up: they sent me an automated letter saying I did not make it to the second round. I emailed asking for feedback, and that is when they realized their mistake. Honestly, I bet that mistake would not have been caught had I not taken initiative myself and asked for feedback.
The first part of the interview was simple behavioral questions
Second part was technical, asked by the analyst:
Data work
Languages
Database Technologies
Honestly, I don't think State Farm understands the difference between a Decision Science/Business Analytics (DSCI) major and a Business Computer Information Systems (BCIS) major. Most the technical questions asked were things that a student would only cover if they were a BCIS major. DSCI does not focus on Oracle, DB2, Java (maybe), Mainframe, etc.
I did not receive an offer, they stated they wanted someone more technical. Again, back to what I was saying, I am a DSCI major, not a BCIS major.
Also, State Farm is all about networking. I applied online in the Fall semester without having met anyone from the company, and immediately got an automated rejection letter. Several of my friends also did the same, and because they didn't network, got automated rejection letters. I do know 2 people who did a fair share of networking and got acceptance letters. Do you see my point I am getting at?
The following Spring semester, I met State Farm at the career fair, I met them at an AIS meeting, I performed mock interviews with them, I attended a job shadowing event at their Dallas office, and I had a speaker come to a senior level DSCI course. I say that all to say, I did my fair share of networking and most of the people involved in college hiring knows me now.
I applied, and got a first round interview and second round interview.
Overall, great experience. The people involved in the college recruiting are all great and nice, and also willing to go out of their way to help us prepare. However, HR department is VERY slow and sloppy (because they messed up by sending me a rejection letter when they should not have). It took about a month to hear back about a 1st interview. Took about 3 weeks to hear back about a second interview. Now, before I completed my second interview, I did have another offer on the table. State Farm was kind enough to expedite my second round interview by 3 weeks. All in all, I accepted a different position and am very happy!
