One of the leadership team members reached out to me via LinkedIn regarding interest in my background. They had interviewed with over 120+ people previously and were looking for the right fit to help them grow the team rapidly. After the initial phone screen with the person that would be my manager, I was moved forward to the in-person interviews. I met with about 6 employees, all of them being director+ level team members, as well as the two founders. While it seemed like a lot of high-level interviews for an entry-level role, I reminded myself that this is a start-up and they are looking to make sure they have the right team as the foundation to grow off of. Those early hires are always the most critical and can make or break the company culture.
I was asked many questions that spanned from technical skills to personal interests to hiring and recruiting theory. I felt that they truly listened to my responses and took those into consideration regarding their hiring plans. They explained the vision they had for the company. It was really inspiring to talk to so many people who really saw a bright future and how they planned to work to achieve their goals. The founders were very down-to-earth and friendly people. I became increasingly excited about the opportunity to become a member of their team, even though I was not even actively looking for a new position!
After the in-person interview, I was called and told that they had decided to move forward with myself and another candidate. After our interviews, they had realized that the initial posting and title for the position were inaccurate. They decided to split the role into two and it was an incredibly good decision for the rate that they wanted to scale the team at.
