Applied online with cover letter, contacted soon after. Passed phone screen with recruiter then one hour call with a Stripe Account Manager. Next round was a short presentation about Stripe to be reviewed by another AM. Final Round was 5 on site interviews with members from different departments. Break in-between, during which you were minded by another AM to see if you fit into the culture. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming, got some of the toughest questions consistently I've ever received, which I enjoyed. You get interviewed by members of the Tech team, support team, sales team and AM team. And you do a live API debugging. Final interview was with the hiring manager which I had to do via a video call as she was in London. I'm much better at in-person interviews than video calls as it is hard to establish a good connection with the interviewer. I felt this last interview was my worst one. I received a rejection on Sunday. Stripe kindly offered phone feedback, which I was grateful for. My downfalls were that I was not concise enough and it seems I was not too technologically apt for the role. Which I found odd as I worked in software tech support before and breezed through the API debugging round. From what I've read this seems to be a common rejection line, I think not to offend applicants as who is to know how technologically apt one needs to be and the other AMs I spoke with were not big tech experts themselves and I felt that I simply did not answer the sales questions well enough or did not have enough sales experience as the final hiring manager was a sales manager that threw some sales curve balls. They also told me that this is the first time they are hiring for an Associate AM in Dublin so they were looking for an anchor that would help build out a team and that possibly if there was already a team then I may have been a shoe in. They seem to be constantly hiring for this role so may be now they have a team and you will have a better chance!
Overall I think what they're looking for is a developer turned sales manager to upsell to existing accounts that were not approached before as Stripe does not have enough AMs to go around and they are heavily developer centric. I do think that the tech aspect downfall was a flimsy excuse. They need to decide what they want as most sales guys would not be developers or vice versa.
