Got an employee referral. Never had a recruiter screen, went straight to a 1:1 with a team lead. Call went well and I moved on to the next round. That consisted of me having to do an assignment that said I needed to identify 5 companies Stripe should target, select 2 of those companies, identify a person at that company to prospect into, write a prospecting email, then detail how I would go about following up with that person. That was just the first part. Second part of the prompt asked me to describe one of those technical features to a non technical person.
I thought this was a lot to ask of someone with 3+ years of closing experience, but decided to do it anyways. I spent about 6-8 hours on this assignment. In the end, I had a call with another rep with less than 2 years of closing experience to discuss my assignment. That call went as expected. The interviewer was essentially running down a list of questions, most of them, she could've got the answer to by just reading my assignment, so it was evident she did not take the time to read my assignment beforehand. The negative feedback I got on the assignment was that only 3 of the 5 companies I submitted would be the type of company I would actually work with in this role (nowhere in this prompt was it suggested that the 5 companies had to be under X revenue or X employee size, simply said pick 5 companies that Stripe should target). The second point the interviewer made was that my explanation of a technical product to a non technical person was too long, and should've only been a couple sentences (their prompt did not instruct it to be less than X sentences). All in all it was unfortunate to put this much effort into this assignment, only to go through it with a junior Account Exec who didn't take the time to read it ahead of time. If I were in this situation I would kindly push back on this type of assignment, but Stripe likely has tons of AE's who want to work there so you probably won't have much of a choice.
