I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Stripe in Aug 2020
Interview
The recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn and I had a 30-minute conversation with her. She was great throughout the entire process. After that I had a 30-minute call with the hiring manager, he was great and we had a great conversation. After that, I was sent a take-home assignment. This wasn't a "tell us about a time when..." assignment that would have given them a sense of how I work, the questions were very confusing, not related to the role, and did not have enough information. I figured that was because they wanted to see how I would take it. I was wrong. The email from the recruiter literally said: "We encourage you to make assumptions about the project as we want to see where you will take it." However, once they graded my assignment I was rejected and given reasonings like "your answers were wrong" and that "there wasn't a written component to it". Also, multiple times throughout the prompt it said: "Feel free to deliver this in whatever format is most efficient for you", but I was rejected bc it was "wrong"??? I am very disappointed, confused, and frustrated in the way Stripe handled this process. How can you essentially tell someone to be creative and deliver the assignment in any way they want and then tell them they are wrong? Please, change your wording and clearly explain your expectations to your candidates so you don't continue to waste people's time (the assignment took me 6+ hours). The recruiter was great in her communication and never left me wondering what the next steps are.
Long interview process with bad interviewers. not very good didn’t like it didn’t end up getting the job because other candidate had 30+ years experience on me. don’t understand why i had to do 3 assignments if this was the case

Interview
One of the more rigorous interview processes I've been through, but achievable and seemingly intended not to quiz the candidate but rather to assess comprehension, analytical ability, problem-solving, etc.
The recruiter prepared me for each round so I was never caught off guard by or unprepared for any of the questions.
Rounds: 1) Recruiter screen 2) Hiring Manager interview 3) 3-part take-home assignment/phone call to present and obtain feedback 4) Recruiter prep for final 5) Final (4 30-45 min interviews)
Important to obtain as many details as possible about the role in the first two interviews because later rounds are more structured with little time left to discuss.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Recruiter prepares you for kinds of questions you'll receive in final round. In earlier rounds, perhaps be prepared to discuss projects you've worked on or how you handle customer situations, pipeline management, working with your manager & peers, etc.
lengthy but personal and robust. many rounds with very intelligent people. HR point of contact was phenomenal. I really enjoyed the experience. Study up for each round as they are not typical interviews that you may be used to.
