I got an interview through a referral. First interview was with the recruiter who was very nice. After that, I was given a written assessment which they wanted to be completed in 2-3 days. The written assessment was only supposed to take 1-2 hours, but it took me 3-4 hours. They give a lot of good resources to answer the questions, but it’s hard to feel confident in your answers since as a interviewee you aren’t familiar with the product — hence why it took me 3-4 hours. After the written assessment I had a zoom call with a hiring manager. The hiring manager was very nice and I could tell was a good/natural leader, however, I didn’t feel like they asked me questions where I could showcase my skill set. It was more of a conversation vs an interview. It made me feel like I couldn’t showcase my skill set and accomplishments without sounding awkward and like I was showing off — even though I feel like you’re supposed to show off in an interview. Also, prior to the interview with the hiring manager, the recruiter advised I have my accomplishments prepared, so thought it was kinda weird that those were not really asked about and that it didn’t really seem like that was the nature of the interview. Didn’t make it past the hiring manager interview, but really enjoyed everyone I spoke with. Two things I thought was weird was that after I got an email that I got an interview with the hiring manager they had me fill out the full job application even though I had already gotten an interview with the recruiter after I was referred. Second thing was that they give a plethora of resources to learn more about Stripe before your first interview with the recruiter. The resources included several podcasts, two of them being at least 45 minutes and the others being almost 2 hours. While I enjoyed listening to the podcasts and reading the articles they sent, it seemed like an overload of information and almost gave me anxiety thinking of all of the potential questions they could ask me. Also, I felt like it was a lot for someone who already has a full time job. On top of that the recruiter advises you to study up on Stripe before the interview with the hiring manager — just seemed like they really wanted me to know a lot about the product. The hiring manager actually even acknowledged that I had studied Stripe a lot but I guess it wasn’t enough to move forward. Overall, I enjoyed everyone I talked to and would apply again in the future if they would take me.
