      Senior Engineer Interview

      Anonymous Interview Candidate

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Stryker (Fort Lauderdale, FL) in Apr 2019

      Interview

I recently interviewed in the Spring of 2019 with Stryker for a Senior Engineer job opportunity and had a positive interview experience. I applied online and received an email from a recruiter about a week later looking to schedule a phone interview. The following week, the recruiter and I connected and talked about various aspects of the job as well as my qualifications. Towards the end of the call, he recommended that I should speak with the hiring manager and a few days later I had a brief 30 minute conversation with him. We connected on multiple levels and had a pleasant meeting. The recruiter followed up the next week and wanted to schedule a more in-depth, technical interview. We talked about my technical competencies, career paths at Stryker, their facilities, the team I’d be joining, etc. It lasted about an hour. At the end of the call, he informed me that he was going to recommend me for the next step. A brief time after that, I received a follow-up invitation from the recruiter for the Gallup Interview. For those of you that don’t know, Gallup is an organization that Stryker partners with to perform their behavioral interviews. They are a 3rd party that conducts the complete interview and sends the results to Stryker, which determines the next step in the interview process. The survey is designed to extract candidate’s strengths and their impulse response. If you prepare and have experiences from which you can draw upon, you will do fine. There is a pretty quick turnaround here which is nice. A week or so after that the recruiter tells me they would like to schedule an on-site interview. I oblige. Over the next few weeks, I coordinate with the hiring manager and other HR personnel. Again, the entire interview experience was delightful, and the on-site series of interviews were reflective of that. The day began with a presentation I delivered. My graduate level research was very similar to the work that they do which made it really easy to talk about. I also drew upon my work experience in the medical device industry and my other Internships, which I think they liked. The presentation was fluid and felt quite natural. For the rest of the day, I had 1-on-1’s with other members of the team, people that the team liasons with, and HR. A lot of it was me talking about myself, showing them photos of my work, performing demonstrations, etc. so it was really quite easy. Stryker covered airfare and lodging which I am very grateful for. Recently, I logged on and checked my application status and discovered I was no longer under consideration for the role. During one of the interviews on-site, I learned that there was another, internal candidate interviewing as well. I can only assume that they went with him, that the position was canceled, or something else. Either way, great experience overall.

      Interview

Interview is okay. Friendly. Just ask basic questions. 2 rounds. Each interview an hour long. First round was good. Second round was okay too but 2 with 2 people from US team. Be prepared for a lot of behavioral/ start up pitch sort of questions. After the two rounds, they ghost you. They do not respond even when asked for an update/ nor sends a rejection email. Very unprofessional.
