I was asked to complete a screening phone call with a recruiter which was a total waste of time. The recruiter seemed to be reading my application details for the first time as we were on the phone. The questions felt very unclear as if they weren't even sure what they were meant to be asking me. Despite this, I felt our rapport was good and that it was going well. Then the recruiter seemed to read my salary expectation for the first time and said it was higher than the job was budgeted for (I asked for £39k and the role is for £35k with no perks such as a lease car) and said "so we will just leave this here. Bye." Total tone shift and I was promptly hung up on. It was very bizarre and annoying to have my time wasted like that when we were never going to be a good fit for each other if the recruiter had read my details before booking a screening call. Disappointing experience so I wouldn't bother applying for any other roles with them in the future.
