I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Target in Feb 2015
Interview
I initially interviewed over the phone with a recruiter who asked simple questions such as Tell me about yourself, Why Target, What are your salary expectations, education, etc. I immediately received notification that I would be interviewing with the leadership at the Newton, NC Distribution Center within two weeks.
This interview was over FaceTime and consisted of two separate interviews with three people each. The attire was business (suit) and consisted of an icebreaker conversation and then an explanation as to the expectations of the interview. Each person asked me several questions relating to my experience. All questions were "Tell me about a time..." with answers to be given in the STAR format.
The questions were tough and solid preparation is definitely required. The interviewers were all very personable.

So far, I've only interviewed. I was emailed within minutes by a REAL human resources representative after applying for the position. A phone interview was scheduled at my convenience. The phone interview lasted 24 minutes. At the conclusion of the interview, I was told when I would receive a response from the company. Overall, I have a lot of respect the Target hiring process. Using real people alleviates the stress of waiting weeks for an automated response
