*anyone with an upcoming interview, study all the questions on this website according to the position you are applying for & have answers to those prepared and you will do fine* My experience: Applied online, Store Manager called months later to schedule a 1:1 interview. They seemed eager to get the ball rolling as they called several times to leave VM's bc i was out of town & unable to return their calls right away. I called back within a few days and the interview was scheduled for following week. A Store Mgr. conducted the interivew in a quiet office within the store. Interviewer was easygoing and made experience very positive. Started out asking me "tell me about yourself" & then we brielfly went over my resume & work experience. Then i was asked several behavioral based questions from the interview pamphlets they use. They all follow the STAR format (Situation, Task, Action, Result). Tip: make sure you come prepared with a handful of specific NOT general examples from your work experience and/or personal life that you can explain using the the STAR format. They will even tell you that they will stop & ask for clarification if they feel you are not properly utilizing this method before they write down your answer, which is nice bc they dont want to make assmptions about your answer. Interview lasted about an hr, went great & was asked to come back for a second one. Was told it would likely be a few back to back interviews all in one day.
Came back the next week for interviews & was asked to first take an online test at the kiosk, which consisted of logic based questions, answering real life management scenarios, & math, if you are not prepared can take a while. So I would suggest brushing up on college level math beforehand, it can make all the difference. First round was w/a store mgr. 2-3 back to back interviews sounds intimidating ,but it's not bc they are somewhat short & they only ask 5 or so behavioral based questions from their pamphlets. (Tip: if you are creative w/your answers you won't have to memorize so many examples/stories ex: "tell me about a time you responded to a crisis' answer can also be used for "tell me about a time you went above & beyond for a customer" etc. so if they don't ask "crisis" question you can use same answer for "above & beyond" question) Second round was w/ a Store Team Leader ?went well, also a very talkative & easygoing interviewer... was told at the end if i moved foward there woud be 2 additional interviews. One w/HR & a phone interview w/a head honcho.(Interview process can be lengthy bc there is a 4-5 interview minimum for a Team Lead spot so if you are lookin to get a job asap it's something to remember). Didnt hear back for almost a week (they said they would call either way). Finally, i called the store a few times, was able to tt one of interviewers who said they should be contacting people that day. A few days passed & i received an email confirming they "could not offer me a position at this time". No sweat, i learned during interview process that the job wasn't the right fit for me anyway.
Some things to keep in mind: It's retail, make sure you can committ yourself to long hours, weekends, evenings, holidays,etc. On the Flip side- for a recent college grad the starting pay & benefits are pretty good compared to alot of other entry level mgr or mgt trainee jobs at other large corporations. Overall, interview process and vibe from store, employees was positive. SIDENOTE: considering Target has pretty casual uniforms for employees, the question of what to wear to a Target interivew can be confusing bc u don't want to seem overdressed & rigid for a place that stresses it's a fun place to work. I usually wear suits, but to the first interview for men & woman i would say slacks & a nice blouse/shirt/tie etc. seems to be okay. For 2nd, 3rd etc i suggest a pant or skirt suit depending on if you are male or female.
