      Marketing Specialist Interview Interview

      Feb 3, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at TaskRabbit (San Francisco, CA) in Jan 2020

      Interview

I had a first great conversation with the recruiter and a second conversation with the hiring manager on the phone. I was invited on-site where I interviewed with a panel of 6 people (30 min each) - a combination of cross-functional peers and senior leaders - who were all friendly and nice. However, there was one interview that felt like an interrogation rather than a conversation. This executive was very specific and technical with the line of questioning which were often not related to the role rather about how I could handle pressure or approach challenges I may face in this role. For some strange reason, this person was approaching the interview in a very defensive mode (maybe she had made her decision long ago that she didn't want me on the team?). I felt like my past experiences were even criticized that left me with the impression -- 'how is it that you got this far along in the interview?'. I began to question if I could be comfortable working on this team under the supervision of a leader like this at the head. After a few follow ups and more than 2 weeks waiting I received a standard automated rejection email which was devastating. I was so in shock by the lack of personalization in the automated email that I had to follow up with the recruiter to confirm. The recruiter was very friendly and receptive to providing me feedback. In the end, the explanation for why I didn't get the position was underwhelming and didn't align with all the positive feedback I had been given all along with the hiring manager. It just felt like I wasn't a personal fit for the one executive although the hiring manager was ready to bring me on board. Really frustrated by how much time and energy I had invested into this role and company to only receive a generic 'thanks for your time' email after 5-6 weeks.
