Eligibility and Initial Communication:
• Students from every department with no standing backlogs and an aggregate of 60+%(up to the semester before the current one) are eligible for attending the recruitment process in their college.
• You always need to know about the company you are aiming to work for before you go into the interview process. TCS will conduct an introductory presentation to all the eligible students before the recruitment process starts. You should grasp most of what they tell about their company, that will be useful during the HR interview.
Written Test:
• The written exam will test you in aptitude, logical thinking, data interpretation and English. It is 80 mins and some 60 questions(I dont remember the exact number). A good preparation covering most topics found in the aptitude books will easily get you through the written exam.
Technical Interview:
• This is the first of the three interviews and irrespective of your stream in B.Tech, you will be asked questions in C programming. Be sure to prepare well, like the basics of C & Data Structures. "Tell me about yourself" is a question asked in every interview. KNOW about the major/minor project you did and briefly explain its objective and the way you did it while answer this question. Depending on the interviewer, they might ask you question from your domain, so brush up a little with the basic subjects in your stream. Just be confident while answering.
Managerial Interview:
• The students who get through the technical interview will have this one. This is kind of a personality test, i guess. During my interview, the guy asked me, "What would you do if you are stranded in an island and you are alone?". Your answer speaks of your problem solving capabilities. Don't panic, just give positive answers for all such questions. Be sure to be prepare for questions like "Tell me this company", "Why do you have low grades?", "Why do you want to do a software/IT job when you are doing your degree in ECE/EEE/MEC/Civil?". You might struggle to answer such questions spontaneously, so add this to your interview preparation. Again, confidence is an important trait.
HR Interview:
• Once you get through the mangerial interview, there is only one hurdle between you bagging the job. People who come out of the HR interview would be saying, "That was so easy. Nothing". Don't blindly believe them. Although it is true, it will have a negative effect on your performance because you will go into the interview a little carelessly, overconfident. Just treat this round as much as important as any other, in fact, the most important. This round almost can be scripted: Tell me about yourself? Why TCS? Some random questions that tests your spontaneity like capital of states/countries, headlines of newspaper, etc. He even asked me about Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and asked me to explain the plot. They are just finishing their analysis of you. Take it calm and controlled. They will ask you about your flexibility with work shifts and locations, say you will work anywhere. There won't be anything else that will test you to limits, you just need to stay calm and answer. Know about the company, the leaders in the company before you attend interview, they expect it from everyone because it tells them that the student is enthusiastic about joining their company.
The whole process took 1 day, my HR interview finished at around 8 PM.
