Not necesarily. I was actually in this situation. The employer suspected theft (later proven to be his miscalculation). We were taken into his office and privately asked if we saw another employee doing something, and I said no, but if I ever did, I'd put a stop to it. He made me manager on the spot. i think he admired my displaying a bit of indignation at the suggestion my team was dishonest.
