The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Macy's in Oct 2010
Interview
I had filled out the personality questionnaire a year ago. I kept applying for open positions via the website but never was contacted for any. I decided to add details to my resume that I wouldn't have done otherwise--I had worked for a clothing department store before but knew that if they were called, I wouldn't get a good review (and probably everyone I worked with were already gone anyway). So I added I had fitting room experience and was familiar with the ins and outs of customer service. Lo and behold, I get an email asking for an interview for a seasonal position. I scheduled an interview myself on their website. On interview day, I found myself sitting next to a 16 year old facing the interviewer. We were interviewed together! That irritated me. Questions asked (besides the old standard of tell me about yourself):
* Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?
* Tell me about an instance where you saw a co-worker doing something wrong. What did you do?
* Tell me about a time you helped someone.
* How do you handle multitasking?
Nearly all of the questions were focused on how you would behave as an employee. I got an offer of employment on the spot--not as seasonal, but full time. There is no negotiating salary. I would recommend dressing in black pants/skirt with a black suit coat or cardigan, since black is the employee color. There is a large age range in the people who work here, which is a little refreshing from the norm. Definitely ask every single question you can concerning day to day concerns on employment because if you don't ask no one will tell you.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Tell me about an instance where an employee did something wrong.
Was interviewed for a seasonal position. Was told they have no seasonal positions, once they found out I was a college student. Made no sense to me quickly ended the interview.
The interview process was straightforward and fairly quick. It started with a phone interview from a recruiter or hiring representative who asked general questions about my background, availability, and interest in the role. The tone was professional but conversational, and the interviewer focused on making sure I could handle a fast-paced, customer-facing environment.
I had one interview with the store manager and it lasted for about 45 minutes. The interview was all standard behavioral questions. I was offered the job on the spot.
