      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Tesla in Jun 2021

      Interview

First call was with a recruiter who walked me through the basics of "working at Tesla." All the same points that you can find on all job review sites - need to be "scrappy", lots of change, projects can be throw at you at any time, need to be adaptable. Typical fo any tech company and really any creative role, even creative-adjacent. We talked about my work and reviewed my reel. Went in depth on a few video samples - my role, the process, again typical interview questions. When I asked about the specifics of the role, I was told that would be be on the next round. The next round is where I realized that this was a poorly listed job and not a Senior Video Producer role at all. The recruiter explained again I needed "to be scrappy" and that "since we are a startup" things are always changing. A big red flag from all the research I did on the interview process. Then when I asked about specifics on the production side I was told I would be shooting everything on an iPhone. Shooting... on an iPhone! Now, ego aside, this is not a Sr. Video Producer role. This is a Preditor role - a role for someone 2-3 years out of school with a good TikTok channel. Really, a good fit for that person and a common video role. But it felt like a bait and switch when all the work I had shown , discussed and was asked to breakdown was public-facing high level production.
