      Technical Program Manager Interview

      Jun 25, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Tesla

      Interview

** Just want to preface this review by saying, even if I had received the official offer, my opinion would not change. It was basically a nightmare that lasted a total over 4 months** The only word to describe this interview process is ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. From my first phone screen with a recruiter, to when my *verbal offer* got declined by the VP, it was a little over 4 months. Interview process went as follows: Phone screen with recruiter 2 separate video calls with 2 hiring managers Panel interview, with 5 different people, and a presentation Video interview with the Director Things were going smooth until after the Panel interview I would say. A few days after the completion, the recruiter called me and said "hiring manager wants to add me to the team, congrats! We just need to complete last steps." Apparently all hires needed to get an approval to the executive team, but the recruiter/hiring manager/Director all assured me that it would pretty much be a slam dunk. Well, obviously it wasn't. The write up process to the executive team took like 2 months, and I did not hear from the company for weeks on end. This was obviously frustrating, as I had pretty much been reassured that I got the job. Not only that, there was some executive in an office that had never met me, reading off a piece of paper, that denied my approval... Yet both the hiring manager and Director wanted to hire me... that just did not make any sense to me at all... The reasons they gave me for the denial of approval were not even accurate towards my experience. And if it was, why would I have made it that far through the process? If you are looking for someone with senior experience, why would the hiring manager and Director not know that and lead the candidate on for that long? I feel like they think just because they are Tesla, the company can do whatever they want with candidates. I sort of looked past the red flags along the process because, well, its MF Tesla... Personally, I probably will not interview with them again, unless it is on a completely different team. If you are interviewing with them currently, good luck! Look out for the red flags, and really understand what the process is going to look like. I read other horror stories on Linkedin of people's offers being rescinded few days before the start date and everything... just be careful, and don't give your 2 weeks at your current place until you are 100% sure!

      Question 1

They like PM's with technical background, so make sure you have a lot of examples queued up. Also be prepared for scenario based questions. Nothing was like THAT difficult, just have to be prepared.

      Interview

Multiple interview stages, the recruiters and hiring managers lack professional. I got first video interview rescheduled 3 times not because of me because the hiring manager kept forgetting and missing about the interview. This isn't the first time I interviewed for Tesla, same thing happened again when I interviewed for them 2 years ago for another position.
