Met w/ the Store Manager casual, was extremely casual. Brought a copy of my résumé, he barely glanced at it. He asked about my extensive retail experience, my private guitar instructing and my hobbies. We hit it off right away, joking sarcastically and such. I knew I had the spot right then.
Strangely, became quite apprehensive after I informed him I was 32, (he was shocked, as I'm half Japanese and don't look a day over 25) once I asked how old he was (mid 20's). After that, I took the reigns and began asking the questions: "Explain a day in the life at Buckle." That's one of them I can remember, lol.
(Also, once we started working together, he spilled the beans and said my age, demeanor and experience were a little intimidating.)
Initially, I was applying for a full time sales associate position, but he offered me a Team Leader spot right off the rip. A bit more responsibility and a higher base pay + the standard 3% commission. It was an unexpected toss into the Buckle hierarchy, which didn't seem to fare too well with some of the other younger employees that had been there for quite some time (months and months) and were evidently not cut out for that gig.
I unfortunately severely sprained and tore ligaments in my ankle trying to get a hold of my spastic dog after only about a month there. Was given a five day mandatory rest note from the ER doctor, but upon returning to work, I knew it as not even close to being healed. I talked to HR, who informed me that any time off the schedule over two weeks is an immediate removal of employment.
My store manager was a little confused on that rule as well, comically. I bit the bullet and resigned, right then and there with HR, as he let me know I'd be eligible for rehire as soon as I healed. It ended up taking five weeks to get 100% and I came to the conclusion it was in my best interest to pursue another avenue than to go back. An inkling within my intuition led me to believe that, so I listened. So, cheers mates!
