      Sales Associate Interview

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at The Buckle (Pensacola, FL) in Sep 2010

      Interview

I went into the mall last friday on a mission to get as many applications as possible and fill them out. I need a job..bad. I am very interested in retail! So i make my way into buckle, i wasnt hounded by employees about buying things, but it was also friday and pretty crowded in there so im sure it would have happened eventually. I went straight to the register and asked the lady if they were hiring and if i could apply. She said yes! and yes! Then she couldnt find what i thought to be the applications so she took a small peice of white paper and asked me for my name, email, and phone number. Said she would get it to whoever needed it. Finished getting all of my apps from stores and i go home. Over the weeked i fill them out and attach a copy of my resume to each app. Monday around 3:00 i go back in, turn them in, and stop by buckle to see if they had any applications i could have since they couldnt find them last time. I explained that i had already been in there, what the cashier had me do, and then they took my contact info again and said they would email me the application ASAP. Email? My app?...ok! then the manager comes out and says HEY! i just HAVE to show you this pair of boots. Brings them out. shows me. Then gives me my jean size. Then says shes looking forward to getting my application. I go home. Wait all night, and NO email was sent to me again! So i go online the next day determined to send one since this is the first place that is actually HIRING. Others said they may be hiring in October. I get online, submit my app, and 2 minutes later recieve and email saying that buckle would like to schedule an interview with me and then provided a phone number to call. I call it, explain myself, i get put on hold 3 times, manager answers and says how about tomorrow at 3:15?! I accept. I wear a pair of dark jeans, a button up blouse, and nice brown sandals to the interview. I didnt want to overdo it, but i also didnt want to under do it. if that makes sense. I get there 10 minutes early and there is someone there before me waiting for HER interview, and shes wearing booty shorts and a white tanktop with her cleavage hanging out and her face is CAKED in makeup. Her bag was cute though! I mean if she were on her way to the beach i would even say i liked the outfit. but she looked like an air head, and she didnt look too pleasant. Whatever. So i go up to the counter and the manager says it will just be a second because she has to interview this other girl first. Long story short, Her interview overlapped my interview by 10 minutes and when i finally got to do it, the lady was yawning throughout my interview and acting very bored. She was nice though! She did her best to listen to me, and my interview definately went longer that the girl before me. We even got side tracked with talking about photography and swing dancing. Over all, the questions she asked me were things like - explain a time in a past job where being persistant paid off. - explain your availability from Sunday-Saturday - Explain your experiences in the past 3 jobs that you have had - Tell me why buckle makes sense to you. < that was probably the trickiest question i was asked. just because it is such an awkward question to me. Then when everything was finished she said, and explained why, i wouldnt get an answer until the following monday.. so here i am.. waiting for my answer through EMAIL. good thing is she told me she would let me know either way. thing that makes me weird about it is that she said if i didnt get an email on monday to just call her.. which is a bummer that my interview with her is just kind of... not important, or so it seems.

      Interview

Super quick and easy. The woman who interviews me was very kind and understanding to it being my first retail job. I was offered a job on the spot and was able to ask any lingering questions I had about the role and profession.

Very simple. No behaviour questions. It was basically all about me. We talked about hobbies, availability, college plans. It was like a fun conversation and not a hard, daunting, scary interview.

      Interview

They bring you in to ask basic interview questions. Make sure you completely dress the part. I was told before the interview by an associate that I should wear clothes they sell there. She didn't go into detail but I take that as they won't hire you if you don't.
