After coming across an online ad for a sales associate position, I applied online for the Children's Place. Although I do not have retail experience, I figured I would give it a shot. Maybe 3 days later, the manager called me to set up an interview, which I said 'of course' and we worked out a time about 5 days later.
The interview was with me and one other girl. We went into the back of the store for the interview, and sat facing the manager. The questions were very typical and easy to answer, she did, however, throw in some more difficult questions (which I listed below.) After the interview portion, we went onto the sales floor and she had another associate pretend to be a customer shopping for a child's birthday party. We got to put together outfits for a 'demanding customer'; I made sure to be polite, accommodating to the 'customer,' and pushed the Place Card and different coupons.
After the on-floor portion, we walked into the backroom again and discussed a few more things, and we were able to ask questions. I asked about 4 questions while the other girl just sat there with nothing to contribute. The manager said she would call each of us in a week to follow up and set up second interviews.
A week went by and I never received a call. I didn't want to come across pushy, but I really wanted this job, so I called the manager at the store. I was polite and upbeat and simply stated that I was following up because I hadn't heard anything. The manager sounded annoyed and rude, and said again that I would get a call soon; I never did. It sucks too because I was in the mall the other day and saw the bland, personality-less girl I interviewed with walking into TCP dressed in work clothes.
