      Substance Abuse Counselor Interview

      Sep 23, 2016
      Anonymous employee
      Chicago, IL
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied in-person. I interviewed at The GEO Group (Chicago, IL)

      Interview

The process from start to finish is long. It takes the company forever to check your credentials. They gave a start date but I was unable to start because the background had not been completed. Once everything was finally in order there is a two day orientation to go through policies and procedures.

      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Delano, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at The GEO Group (Delano, CA) in Dec 2017

      Interview

The interview was off-site for a position at the local state prison. Interviewed with the program manager and another company rep. They explained the job duties, and discussed my education and experience, as it related to the requirements. They were very frank, as to the actual duties and the work environment, and presented a number of scenarios, to evaluate my responses.

      Question 1

“Identity one situation when you had to deal with a difficult client.”

      Substance Abuse Counselor Interview

      Sep 12, 2014
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at The GEO Group in Jan 2014

      Interview

One interview where you met with the program director and another person in HR. The second time, rehire, the program warden met in the process with HR Rep and Program Director. Both times it was obvious they just wanted a body to do the job. The second time it was obvious they were just beyond desperate as they hired others who had no experience.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

None were difficult if you are holding an advanced degree. However questions about the 12 Steps are sometimes neglected. The focus is kept just on how to handle difficult clients with no focus on substance abuse or anything clinical.
