The overall interview process was pretty simple. I interviewed with the two managers looking to build out their teams in the West. Both of them came from standard market backgrounds and had little to no surplus lines experience, which was apparent. They read off generic interview questions which sounded like they Googled right before the meeting. I provided answers to the scenario questions, but it seemed like they were not engaged with any of the responses. I inquired about the goals/plans for the teams and the answers provided were wishy-washy at best with no true vision or direction of how to get there. A lot of planned growth with no true foundation usually ends up in disaster. All-in-all, it felt like standard market insurance professionals stepping into a whole new world that they are unprepared for.
