      I interviewed at Toast Inc

      Interview

The interview process at Toast was organized and transparent. It started with a recruiter screening call focused on my background and why I was interested in Toast. From there, I had a video interview with the hiring manager that dove deeper into my sales experience and how I approach prospecting and closing deals. After that, I completed a short mock sales exercise to demonstrate how I would pitch to a restaurant owner, followed by a panel interview with team members. Everyone I spoke with was friendly, professional, and genuinely passionate about the company’s mission to help restaurants thrive. Overall, the process took about two weeks from start to finish, and communication from the recruiter was consistent throughout. I appreciated how structured and respectful the process was — it gave me a great sense of the team culture and expectations.

I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Toast Inc in Sep 2022

      Interview

Received email on a Friday requesting that I provide my availability to attend a phone interview. I was scheduled for a 30 minute call on Monday within the window I provided and the recruiter advised that I would receive a phone call. Unfortunately, I did not receive a call at the scheduled time, so I checked the email to see if the recruiter provided their phone number in their email signature so that I could initiate the call. Unfortunately, they didn't so I waited for a while more and then emailed the recruiter to see what was happening. I also checked to see if they had my correct phone number. I received a reply from the recruiter saying that they did have my correct number and that they had called and left me a voice mail. I was by phone the entire time and had no record of a missed call or voice mail. The interviewer emailed back and offered to still call me. We did end up speaking, but overall it wasn't the experience that I had been expecting.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Toast Inc (Minneapolis, MN) in Apr 2022

      Interview

I had similar experiences to other interviews on here. I made it to the third round of interviews. The first was just a phone call with the recruiter. She was fabulous and the conversation was less than a half hour. The second interview was a phone call with a manager of the role I was interviewing for, meaning he could be my superior. He was friendly and involved and thoughtful during the interview. I had to present an elevator pitch for the Toast Go 2 pitch which was pretty simple because I use it at work 40 hours a week. I know the Toast Go 2 as well as I know my iPhone. I think my knowledge and experience with Toast seemed a big benefit to my interviewer. The third interview was a video call with two people. It should have been with the manager from my second call but his availability did not line up with mine. This was a critical error looking back. I should have ensured I interviewed with the guy I already established a rapport with. I was told there would only be one person on the video interview but there were two. Both were friendly guys and answered all my questions. One of them was clearly working on his computer throughout the interview, which honestly didn't bother me much but I think it would unsettle other interviewees. You could tell these guys have been through a ton of interviews and having me on the tail end of their work day did not seem to benefit me. This interview required a presentation that I spent hours researching. They wanted a go to market pitch and research for a specific restaurant and specific market. Not too much detail so it was hard to guess exactly what they were looking for. Apparently, I did not provide what they wanted as I was not offered another interview or the position. Seems like a really good way for a company to get free pitch research (honestly, I respect the game). This third and last interview was a perfect storm of being hopped up and foggy on cold medicine, not having the same interviewer as my second interview and being scheduled for the end of the work day. Or maybe, since this was the first video, they didn't like my purple hair :) I would say the process was thorough and the recruiter was really great. She was supportive and answered all my questions. I received no specific feedback from the recruiter or interviewers. I emailed each of them to ask for feedback and haven't heard back yet. The outcome was disappointing and surprising to me. I know that me and Toast are a perfect match. I have been a successful account executive for over 6 years and I use Toast at my part time server gig. I talk to people about Toast all the time and would have been successful at doing that professionally. I intend to apply with Toast in the future because I truly love their product. I think the company will continue to grow and I want in on that action.
