To get through the ATS process was a nightmare. It took me over three revisions before I finally got a call - I am ver qualified and have several years experience in Visual Merchandising. I went through more than 7 interviews for two open positions that paid less than $20 an hour. The first was an hour long phone screen that seemed to go well. It took over 2 weeks before the District VM called to set up and interview at the first location. I had 3 separate interviews here - one with the store manager, one with the Asst, Store manager and one with the District Visual Merchandise Manager. The first 2 interviews went well, about an hour each, only to spend over 2 hours with the DVM who suggested I was more experienced and that they would rather place me at a flagship location, so she would set up those interviews - remember - less than $20 an hour and no guarantee of 40 hours at either location. The next round of interviews included 1 interview for 3 hours with the Retail District Manager, and another with an unrelated store manager who explained the flagship store I would be assigned to had a difficult manager...YAY...and that she had no respect for Visual Merchandisers. You are now at 5 interviews with no offers on the table. A second round with the DVM followed by a phone interview with the VP or Visual who was simply an ass, spending much of his time trying to see how manipulative he could be, requesting I be available to move to more depressed locations struggling to make numbers, degrading my time with a former employer stating "he never hires people from there". I answered all of his questions, remained cool under fire, including questions regarding how I would deal with this particular difficult manager (how about you fire her? was my thought). This was followed later in the afternoon by ANOTHER call from the DVM - I assumed after all of this USELESS contact there would be some type of decision. Instead she laughed stating she would have an answer the following day but not to worry, I would be placed in one of the 2 stores regardless. The next morning she did call, stating I had made it to the top 3 candidates but they decided to move in another direction and could she keep my resume for other opportunities. NO, no you can't - I didn't mention the barrage of photo's I had to critique from other VM's presentations, personality questionairres, and contacting all 5 of my professional references. It has been my experience that unless you are following through with an offer, you don't call references!!! Yes, I want to explain that I didn't get your crappy $17 an hour job to my former Vice President who is also a great friend. WTF??? Seriously. So STAY AWAY!!! These people are all idiots, wasted a ton of my time, and put me through a Google-like experience all to dress mannequins and fold clothes. I had great experiences with their licensed shops within the company I had been employed by for 10 year prior to the Great Recession - one of the reasons I sought them out as a company. They can keep their outdated hawaiian shirts and linen pants - DO NOT LET THEM WASTE YOUR TIME AND TALENT!!! After all was said and done, I researched why the positions were REALLY open and both former VM's stated they HATED the DVM and RVM and the company culture was like an episode of Survivor.
