      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Toys "R" Us (Cumberland, NJ) in Oct 2013

      Interview

I applied one day, and it took about 3 days to get a response. The very next day I had an interview and 2 days after, I was asked if I'd like to start. The interview was a group one. The whole process seemed way to quick, like they were anxious and highly motivated to get anyone at all in there. And I mean anyone, a lot of the other applicants had little to no experience in retail (which is acceptable) but were poorly dressed and had phones and ipods out during the interview. The manager did not seem affected by the "bad" applicants at all and actually payed more attention to them, I felt. We did not begin the process until one of the applicants showed up 45 minutes late. They should have been told to go home or come back another day. It was not fair for the rest of us to wait. There was not much focus to get to know each person individually or what their strengths may be. There weren't really any hard questions or even any tests to learn about the potential hires. There were maybe 1 or 2 questions asked and the rest were just quick facts on the company or the managers life story. He did ask some availability questions, too. But, if you weren't all for the times' he was asking, he just simply moved on to the next person. We played a Lego game, which was meant to be used as an ice breaker or method to analyze team leadership, I assume. The manager was familiar with one of the applicants and spent most of the time playing catch up with them, rather than getting to know everyone. There was one moment where he explained some policy rules and what he will enforce and what he looks the other way at. I was a little shocked. At the end of the interview he basically closed with, he just had to do a background check on everyone. They would receive a call back and be able to start that same week, if they were clear. I did receive a call, but declined. I did not feel right about working there after going through with this whole interview process. I was offered just above minimum wage as well and I had more experience than what they were looking for. So, I was slightly offended.
