I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Trader Joe's (Reston, VA) in Mar 2015
Interview
The first step; you bring in your filled out resume and the hiring manager will speak with you briefly and schedule an interview then. Sometimes the hiring manager is not available when you bring in the resume so it alright to drop it off, they will call you within a weeks time. Once you get your call back you will have your first interview, if they liked you and think that you have the necessary skills AND personality to fit they will schedule you for a second interview. The hiring manager told me that the first interview is mostly just to get to know you and your flexibility and see how well you will mesh with the rest of the team personality wise.
The second interview is either with the Captain ( General Manager) or the hiring manager and you are basically asked the same questions as you were the first interview but you nail down availability. Often times if you get teh second interview you got the job.
Applied online and had one in person interview with the captain. It lasted maybe 10 minutes. Got a call a week or so later that I got the job. Very fast process.
It's two to three interviews, the final with the Captain (or highest manager) of the store. The interviews are largely to get to know your personality and how well you would do at customer service.
The interview process was absolutely wonderful! I didn't feel stressed or nervous and it felt like I was just chatting with a friend! Trader Joes is a great company and the interview was great.
