      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      Dec 9, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Trimble in Nov 2017

      Interview

The interview process took a few weeks, first had to have a one-on-one call with the hiring manager and then another senior member of the development staff. Once all that had taken place I was brought in for a series of interviews with various members of the development team which took roughly half a day. I have over 25 years of development experience and I really wish that the interview process had better options than trying to test my syntax knowledge. I use IDEs to develop and code as I assume the other members of the team utilize, this would mean that if I were to make a syntax error than the IDE would help correct that. I have been building applications and systems for a long time now and I understand how to develop - however I don't think I'm prepared to be quizzed on it at this level. I knew going in this would be the case but I was still hoping they would throw a computer my way and let me show them how I could build something. Wipe boards and pseudo code is great but it reinforced my concern for how their development was performed. I really enjoyed the walk-through and considered the development challenge to be extremely exciting - I would still recommend it to anyone I know who is looking for a job but I feel like they wasted my time, I think the interview could have been stopped a lot sooner if my grasp of syntax was not up to their standards and not have me waste most of a day that I had taken off. Ehh, I was just looking at options and opportunities.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The questions tended to focus on a grasp of how good of your knowledge was of the syntax of the languages that were being used.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Trimble (Chennai) in May 2024

      Interview

Not good, interviewers are not that knowledgable. Asking a lot of bookish questions, not much logical. A person good at mugging up can crack it easily. Were not that approchable, would have liked if they were a bit approchable.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Trimble in Feb 2023

      Interview

Had a recruiter phone screen then online Hackerank assessment. You have to pass the online screen before even talking to an hiring management which I didn't think was fair. The test in my opinion wasn't reflective of duties highlighted in the job description. It was like being tested for 3 roles in 1.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Questions ranged from development to testing to deployment. They were not indicative of actual role responsibilities and I thought it was very misleading. I didn't pass the test because it literally was testing stuff I wouldn't be responsible for and wasn't prepared to answer. I'd applied to this company in the past and they disappointed yet again so I'll definitely never consider them in the future.
