      Software Engineer Interview

      Dec 14, 2014
      Anonymous employee
      Mountain View, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Tubular Labs (Mountain View, CA) in Aug 2014

      Interview

I was first pitched by the CEO on LinkedIn then was pinged by their recruiter a couple months later. The first phone call was with the VP of Engineering, who's very patient and kind to answer all my hard questions. We talked about 20 mins and he helped me schedule a phone screen with their front end engineer because they're looking for front end guys. The phone screen was kinda tough because I haven't been doing algorithm exercises for a while. But the interviewer was nice and happy to work through the strategy with me for the whole 45 mins. They were satisfied to bring me in. Before going into the onsite round I stopped by one of their tech talk about the backend tools they're using. I could tell the strength of their engineering team so I decided to give it a shot. The onsite day was a bit intense. I spent about 5 hours there and spoke one to one with their engineering team. These people all have very decent background and very good communication skills. They asked tough but open-ended questions, which required not only solid CS knowledge but also good intuition (or experience in a different sense). Luckily I got the offer very soon and after some negotiation I accepted the job.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      1. Gaming strategy question: you need to find the right strategy and write your logic in pseudo code. 2. Distributed system design: how do you approach real world distributed system problems by using the basic tools, like mysql.

      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Tubular Labs (San Francisco, CA) in May 2022

      Interview

Ridiculously long interview process with more rounds than you can imagine and overall compensation is terrible. Interview here if you want to practice your interview skills else there's no point. People are nice and you'll enjoy the conversation but by the end the interviews will wear you out. You'll also realize that the compensation/offer is mediocre at best

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Bit of leetcode, bit of behvioral etc.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Tubular Labs in May 2021

      Interview

Very laid back, probably the most relaxed interview I've experienced. The per-interview was really just an introduction to the company and to answer any questions. The second portion involved a coding challenge that must be completed within 4 days.

      Question 1

Will not disclose coding challenge per agreement.

      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

      I interviewed at Tubular Labs

      Interview

Polite and well laid out information interview with CTO, followed by take home challenge (est 2-3 hours length, in actuality took much longer). Take home challenge was difficult given the amount of time allocated, clearly they were looking for absolute top tier junior talent.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Behavioral questions were not asked of applicants who did not satisfactorily solve the technical challenge
