      Project Manager Interview

      Apr 23, 2015
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Turbonomic in Apr 2015

      Interview

Applied through LinkedIn. Initial phone screen with recruiter. Afterwards invited on-site for 6 one-on-one interviews from 9 to 2. The NY office is crowded and very vibrant and I got the feeling the people there work hard and really enjoy what they do. They are planning to move into the city as there is minimal office decor - just a large space with open floor plan with around 40-50 people. The kitchen is fully stocked with fruit (apple, bananas etc.) when I was there. 1st interviewer asked about my experience and explained the different features of the product. When it was my turn to talk she clearly did not pay much attention. I really wasn't sure if she understands what I say. 2nd interviewer came in without either read my resume in advance nor having any interest in seeing it. He told me he opposes the hiring for this role, so he kept asking me what values a PM can bring to the company. Clearly he was very uncomfortable needing to interview someone for the role as he tried very hard to find random questions to ask. Throughout the 45 minutes there were a lot of dead air moments. 3rd interviewer was through skype. She is very courteous and spent time asking relevant questions and introducing the company and product. 4th interviewer was replaced by another person who was not in the original interview list. He was clearly the best interviewer compared with the previous 3, as he asked challenging and probing questions, gave me specific answers for the role, and talked about the company culture. He is very engaged and actually wanted to get to know the candidate. After 4th interview I was told by coordinator the rest of the interviewers are either having lunch or are not in the office. As I am free to go, I thanked her and left the premise. I ultimately decided not to pursue the role as their office is too long a drive for me to commute daily to.

      Interview

Had an initial interview with HR and shortly after was invited to an on-site interview with 5 people. The interview process was very enjoyable. It was more of the discussion with very bright enthusiastic people. We discussed my background and how it fits with the company. We discussed the company and its product and how I can help them. I thought the questions and discussions were relevant to both sides in order to understand a good fit.
