      Senior Account Executive Interview

      Sep 14, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Twilio (San Francisco, CA)

      Interview

I engaged in the so-called Twilio interview process namely due to my competitive nature after reading the reviews on here and thinking those people were just jaded but then also speaking to 4 different individuals I know who essentially echoed the exact same thing but I thought to myself no way! Way! If you want a free night in NYC then apply online to Twilio you'll have 3-4 ridiculously easy generic sales phone interviews. It's the "face to face" that takes the cake, as the other reviews on here say the day of someone on your interview panel will cancel so they'll push you back an hour, when you arrive at their cramped tiny shared office place in NYC they'll tell you how selective they are but can't actually describe any resemblence of the comp plan and they'll name drop their new COO at least 3x as if anyone at the field level remotely cares. Then they'll have you "present" your current solution despite the fact that it might not make anysense in the world that Twilio would be in the market for it. Then if you're really really lucky you get to take yet another day or two out of your current job to fly out to the Valley and visit the "mothership" where you essentially will re-enact the exact same interview from your NYC visit. Then you'll turn in your Twilio expense report and wait 6-8 weeks while you navigate 2-3 different people and apps to submit it. And then you'll sit around in silence for two to three weeks while your recruiter not your recruiters assistant tells you she's waiting on feedback but then unfortunately you will not get the job. Moral of the story if you feel like wasting a couple of days taking an all expense paid trip to NYC and SF by all means apply nothing about the interview is hard at all...but be warned Twilio has no idea what they are looking for I'm fairly certain they have no real desire to fill any of their sales roles, ask them about the comp you get some run around about how 85% of the reps are going to make in the millions this year but when you actually talk to the reps that's far from the truth (one actually told me if I have a decent job now I should just keep it as he is literally asked to bill and invoice his own customers). The strangest thing they really think like their Microsoft or some other huge marquee tech company as many times as they mention how selective and elitist they are. Just beware they are a time suck, it's a sales role, sales reps don't really have the luxury of taking essentially a week out of their life to play the Twilio game!

      Question 1

Didn't really ask any questions, pretty much just talked about themselves the entire time!

Thank you for your sincere feedback. We have since reviewed our hiring procedures for our remote sales position in an attempt to make them more efficient for the candidate. We understand that taking time away from a full time job is challenging, but fully vetting candidates is important and we need to balance those needs. Also because of your feedback, we have revamped our reimbursement procedure, streamlining it for the candidates to reduce lag times.
