      Interview

Recruiter screening first, followed by meeting with the team. It was your standard affair, and everyone seemed to be excited to talk to me. I accepted another job and withdrew before the third round.

Phone screen and hiring manager interview. Both were great. Very relaxed experience and good conversation about what I bring to the table. Hiring manager was candid about what was needed and challenges that the team currently faces.

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Twilio

      Interview

The interview process, and the communication between stages was efficient. However -- The recruiter and the hiring manager had 2 very different descriptions of the role and who they were looking for. I prepared for the next stage with STAR examples, based on my conversation with the recruiter, but those examples weren't quite as relevant when I asked the hiring manager for their expectations of the role. For all of the emphasis on Twilio Magic, I asked the hiring manager how people are measured and held accountable to the company's values, and they replied that there isn't accountability but there are expectations – big red flag for me. The hiring manager mentioned they had a high volume of interviews the week I spoke with them –– understandable, given the market –– but they didn't seem present in my interview. I was asked 2 different questions twice, as though I had not answered either of them previously. One was a basic, quantifiable question. If there are stronger candidates in the pipeline, best of luck to them. But I can't help wondering if I was passed over because my interviewer wasn't able to keep pace with the conversation. I liked the hiring manager very much, and appreciated their direct approach, but the company is in a lot of flux right now, and I sensed more chaos than opportunity.
